For the past 3 years I have been a Lead Process Engineer with Biopharma Engineering.
My journey with the company began by working on a brand new Biopharmaceutical facility in Dublin which we successfully completed in 2016. From there I was involved in the launch of BPE’s new offices in Dublin which opened two years ago and since then I have worked on an array of new projects and clients both national and international and have helped to grow our Dublin based team.
It is great to be part of a growing company which is going from strength to strength, being a part of their story thus far has been both exciting and rewarding.
Describe your role
The design philosophy at BPE is process-led which means my role as a Process Engineer is an integral part of our projects. Getting the process right for our Pharmaceutical clients in terms of capacity requirements, equipment sizing and specifying, allows for better design and inputs from our wider multi-disciplines project teams. I enjoy working with teams and at the same time being responsible for my own deliverables and working with our clients. My days are typically very busy and I am constantly kept going. I work on a range of projects from new builds and facility upgrades to new product introductions both for local and internationally based clients.
What are your qualifications?
I have a BEng and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham and I have more than 25 years’ experience in process engineering and pharmaceutical projects in both design houses and client sites. BPE place value on education and experience and are very supportive in offering further education and upskilling. I have learned allot in the 3 years here because of the diversity and my scope within projects. Compared to other companies where you might be limited, BPE offers a very hands on learning experience and with it, an opportunity for growth.
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about working at Biopharma Engineering is the level of autonomy. We are a close team that coordinates rather than micromanages in terms of deliverables so we look for engineers that are self-motivated and who can take on a body of work and see it through to completion. My job at BioPharma Engineering sees me working as a member of a team to deliver as part of a greater project but also taking on individual projects and working independently.
Another perk to my current role is being able to mentor and nurture junior and intermediate engineers who have started on the team. It is exciting mentoring them along a project and watching them grow and develop.
Working with BioPharma Engineering has also brought new opportunities. I am now the Quality Co-ordinator for the Dublin Office which has brought a new challenge.
What advice would you give someone considering applying for a job with BioPharma Engineering?
Go for it ! It’s a great time to join a company in growth and who offers diverse array of opportunities. The growing portfolio of top pharmaceutical clients keeps work exciting with continuous scope to develop and grow.
At BioPharma Engineering the work is certainly demanding but hard work and commendable performance are always celebrated and rewarded. Additionally there is great emphasis placed on work / life balance and the flexible working culture makes it a great place to work and grow your career.
